About the event

Join BGHRVA and author of Yellow Wife, Sadeqa Johnson, as we embark on Richmond’s Slave Trail, a historic walking trail that traces the history of enslaved Africans to Virginia. This 4.5 mile trek features the James River as well as trail markers chronicling the slave trade history to and from Richmond. This trail includes the true story of Mary Lumpkin, an enslaved concubine of a wicked slave trader, Robert Lumpkin, for which Yellow Wife was inspired. Johnson will briefly discuss her book before the walk and join the participants on the trail for further conversations. After the walk, two signed copies will be raffled off to two lucky, registered participants. Johnson will also sign copies of books after the event. Please bring your own copy.
